Profs R Geoff Richards and Mauro Alini named as a 2021 Fellows of the Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS)
Profs R Geoff Richards and Prof Mauro Alini were honored as 2021 fellows of the Orthopaedic Research Society during its virtual annual meeting on February 15. Richards is director of the AO Research Institute Davos (ARI, and executive director of AO Research and Development). Alini is vice director of ARI focusing on sound guided tissue regeneration especially with our new development of sound induced morphogenesis using novel 3D Bioprinting (3D SIM).
ORS Fellows, selected by the ORS Board of Directors, are longstanding ORS members who have demonstrated exemplary service and leadership, substantial achievement, expert knowledge, and significant contributions to the ORS, its governance, and the field of musculoskeletal research. Fellows are thought leaders and experts in their respective disciplines and serve as role models in the ORS community and in the field of musculoskeletal research exemplifying the core values of the Society.
Longtime ORS members Richards and Alini have had numerous roles within the society, including various committee memberships. They also are long-standing members and fellows of the International Combined Orthopaedic Research Societies (ICORS), of which the ORS is a constituent member society.
"I am honored to accept this fellowship on behalf of the AO Research Institute Davos (ARI), where we have many of the team in voluntary committee positions helping both ORS and the team's academic and social development,” Richards said. “This is beneficial to the team members, ARI, the ORS, and the AO’s international academic reputation.".
Alini explained the important role the ORS has played in his career.
“I am very proud of this fellowship after more than 30 years of attending ORS meetings. Indeed, my first international meeting was an ORS meeting, in New Orleans, United States, in 1990, when I was a first-year postdoc at the Shriners Hospital in Montreal, Canada. No doubt that for basic research and clinical scientists working in the field of musculoskeletal diseases and regenerative approaches, the ORS membership and the participation at the annual meeting is a must.”
